With the torso out of the way we can now move on to the hips and legs. The idea for the legs is basically the same as the torso. Leaving a bit of extra wire past the toes, run your 1/8” wire up the leg and make a pelvis shape as seen in Figure 4. Using the same technique that you did on the torso, go ahead and twist your legs together.

With the two halves of your body created, there are now two ways that you can go. With both ways it will be necessary to trim off any excess wire so that the two halves of the spine overlap by only a quarter inch or so. Again, you’ll be using your blown up turn-arounds a lot to make sure everything lines up. The first path you could take is the easiest. Simply line up the two halves, mix up your Propoxy 20 and use it to join the torso to the pelvis. Personally I wouldn’t recommend this because your armature won’t be able to take very much weight. Of course if your character is on the lean side this might not be an issue.

The second path (and the one I prefer) is a bit more complex. After you’ve mixed up some of your Propoxy, take your T- joint and stuff some into it. Once this is done slide the torso in one end and the pelvis in the other as seen in Figure 5. Now let your Propoxy set. Once that’s done, take your 1/16” wire and start wrapping it around the limbs of your armature (Figure 6). This will prevent your clay from sliding off of your armature as you begin sculpting.
